Quantum Leap for Beauty World

Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai / Osaka Healthcare Pavilion “Nest for Reborn” / Spatial Sound Design / 2025

Sound as an immersive state — translating abstraction into bodily perception through phase, continuity, and spatial drift.

Overview

Spatial sound design for Quantum Leap for Beauty World, presented in the Future Healthcare Zone of the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion “Nest for Reborn” at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai.

The project approached sound as a way of giving physical presence to highly abstract themes such as quantum behavior, leap, and transformation. Rather than treating sound as a series of isolated events, the exhibition was conceived as a single continuous state in which sound acted across the entire space.

Instead of fully synchronizing the audio with visuals and lighting, slight phase differences and fluctuations were intentionally preserved. This allowed perception to shift gradually as visitors moved through the installation, transforming the exhibition from something merely seen into something bodily inhabited.

Because the Expo environment is dense, multilingual, and culturally diverse, the sound was designed to remain abstract without directly narrating meaning. Volume, frequency range, and temporal structure were carefully shaped so the work could coexist with visual information while still altering the spatial experience.
