GINZA SIX ROOFTOP ART PARK / Spatial Sound Design / 2025
Sound as spatial margin — creating stillness, perceptual drift, and atmospheric presence within an open urban rooftop.
Spatial sound design for A Tree (ROOFTOP ART PARK), an installation presented on the rooftop of GINZA SIX.
The project explored how a sense of stillness might emerge within an open rooftop environment where wind, ambient city noise, and human presence constantly intersect. Rather than making the sound itself overly explicit, the work treated sound as an environmental condition capable of quietly transforming the character of the space.
Taking into account the acoustics of an outdoor setting, the sound was designed not to appear from a fixed source, but to permeate the environment as a whole. As visitors moved, paused, or shifted their gaze, perception changed subtly. Positioned at the threshold between city and nature, the work emphasized sound not as explanation or spectacle, but as a way of generating openness, margin, and a temporary suspension within the urban flow.
